Collatek® Gel is intended for dry to lightly exudating wounds. Collatek® is a sterile collagen gel that encourages healing by donating moisture while providing collagen molecules to the wound bed. Collatek® Gel rehydrates dry wounds and eschar. Promotes a moist wound healing environment and promotes autolytic debridement for optimal healing which can be used in conjunction with HBS Medifil® II Collagen particles or SkinTemp® II Collagen Sheets depending on wound depth.
Collatek® Gel bioactively interacts with the wound microenvironment on a cellular and molecular level, assisting the body’s natural healing process. Collatek® is 100% non-hydrolyzed type 1 bovine native collagen in an amorphous hydrogel. Human BioSciences, Inc.’s proprietary Kollagen™ technology process protects and retains significantly more native triple helical protein structure, thus allowing superior stability of the molecule and scaffolding through all four phases of wound healing
Yes, Collatek® Gel is not appropriate for third-degree burns or patients with bovine sensitivities.
Wounds that are heavily exudating are not be appropriate. If the wound is producing more than minimal drainage, consider using HBS Medifi®l II collagen particles or SkinTemp® II Collagen Sheets because they can absorb up to 40-60 times their weight in fluid.
As wounds heal the expectation is the wound will produce less exudate over time. Drainage and wear time of the outer dressing can help determine dressing change intervals. Start with a daily dressing change to determine the wound reaction. Upon dressing change when the wound appears dry, the interval can be extended. Follow your facility protocols as a basic recommendation.
